Only five percent of California's historic 4 million acres of Central Valley
wetlands exists today. More than one-third of these remaining wetlands are
found in Merced County. This unique area has maintained incredible diversity,
offering permanent and seasonal wetlands, riparian corridors and native
grassland. More the 550 species of birds, animals and plants, along with
international shorebird reserves, can be viewed here.
